ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FORUM

Background

The Economic Development Forum was established in 1999 to provide a formal mechanism through which a wide range of key organisations could advise Ministers in the Northern Ireland Administration on issues relating to the development and future competitiveness of the Northern Ireland economy.  The Terms of Reference for the Forum can be viewed/downloaded here.  The Terms of Reference for the Sub-group on Economic Downturn can also be can be viewed/downloaded here.

The Forum is a partnership body whose members represent Government, local Government, business representative organisations, trade unions, the further and higher education sectors, the voluntary and community sector and the agriculture sector.

On 25 January 2010, the DETI Minister announced that, in response to the recommendations of the Independent Review of Economic Policy (IREP), EDF would be stood down and replaced by a smaller advisory body to provide independent advice on the economy.
